Gas upgrade work to start in St Pancras Avenue area of Plymouth

Wales & West Utilities will shortly begin work to upgrade the gas pipes in the St Pancras Avenue area of Plymouth.

The project, which starts on 26 January, is vital to ensure that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing all goes to plan, it will finish by 13 April.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Plymouth City Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout, which includes:

  • A road closure on Tintagel Crescent, between the junctions of Boscastle Gardens and St. Pancras Avenue (until 6 February)
  • A one-way restriction on St Pancras Avenue from the junction of Honicknowle Lane to Carnock Road (26 January – 20 February)
  • A road closure on Downgate Gardens, from the junction of St. Pancras Avenue (12 February – 6 March)
  • Footpath closures on Mylor Close and Antony Gardens (2 March - 13 April)
  • Two-way traffic lights on St. Pancras Avenue, from outside 1 Stratton Walk to the junction with Honicknowle Lane (9 March – 13 April)

Wales & West Utilities' Natalie Raphael is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
